Performance-based Variable Selection for Scoring Models
ثبت نشده
چکیده
The performance of a direct marketing scoring model at a particular mailing depth, d, is usually measured by the total amount of revenue generated by sending an offer to the customers with the 100d% largest scores (predicted values). Commonly used variable selection algorithms optimize some function of model fit (squared difference between training and predicted values). This article (1) discusses issues involved in selecting a mailing depth, d, and (2) proposes a variable selection algorithm that optimizes the performance as the primary objective. The relationship between fit and performance is discussed. The performance-based algorithm is compared with fit-based algorithms using two real direct marketing data sets. These experimental results indicate that performancebased variable selection is 3–4% better than corresponding fitbased models, on average, when the mailing depth is between 20%

متن کاملModel Selection for Mixture Models Using Perfect Sample
We have considered a perfect sample method for model selection of finite mixture models with either known (fixed) or unknown number of components which can be applied in the most general setting with assumptions on the relation between the rival models and the true distribution. It is, both, one or neither to be well-specified or mis-specified, they may be nested or non-nested. We consider mixt...
متن کاملA Comparison between New Estimation and variable Selectiion method in Regression models by Using Simulation
In this paper some new methods whitch very recently have been introduced for parameter estimation and variable selection in regression models are reviewd. Furthermore , we simulate several models in order to evaluate the performance of these methods under diffrent situation. At last we compare the performance of these methods with that of the regular traditional variable selection methods such ...
متن کاملDeveloping an ICU scoring system with interaction terms using a genetic algorithm
ICU mortality scoring systems attempt to predict patient mortality using predictive models with various clinical predictors. Examples of such systems are APACHE, SAPS and MPM. However, most such scoring systems do not actively look for and include interaction terms, despite physicians intuitively taking such interactions into account when making a diagnosis. One barrier to including such terms ...
متن کاملConsumer credit scoring models with limited data
In this paper we design the neural network consumer credit scoring models for financial institutions where data usually used in previous research are not available. We use extensive primarily accounting data set on transactions and account balances of clients available in each financial institution. As many of these numerous variables are correlated and have very questionable information conten...
